Frequently Asked Questions
About Men’s Health
What is the male andropause?
The male andropause refers to the natural decline in male hormone levels with age. While testosterone plays a central role, other hormones also contribute to symptoms such as fatigue, mood changes, reduced muscle mass, weight gain, poor sleep, and lower concentration. At Valens Health, we focus on maintaining your hormones at their optimal levels rather than allowing them to decline over time.
Common symptoms of the male andropause are:
mood swings and irritability
hair loss
loss of muscle mass and reduced ability to exercise
fat redistribution, such as developing a larger waist or "man boobs" (gynaecomastia)
a general lack of enthusiasm or energy
difficulty sleeping (insomnia) or increased tiredness
poor concentration and short-term memory
Who is hormone optimisation suitable for?
Hormone optimisation is designed for men experiencing symptoms of hormonal imbalance such as fatigue, mood swings, low libido, poor sleep, or reduced physical performance. Suitability is confirmed after a consultation and comprehensive blood test review.
Can hormone optimisation help with mental health?
Yes. Many clients report improvements in mood, motivation, and concentration. While hormone therapy is not a replacement for dedicated mental health treatment, it can play a valuable role in supporting overall wellbeing.

Treatment & Safety
What is hormone optimisation therapy?
Hormone optimisation therapy identifies whether your hormone levels are below ideal thresholds and restores balance through personalised treatment plans. Options include bio-identical or synthesised hormones delivered via creams, sprays, capsules, or injections.
Which hormones do you measure?
We go beyond testosterone alone. Our assessments include DHEA, thyroid function, and other key biomarkers, alongside a full health panel, giving us a complete picture of your wellbeing before tailoring your treatment plan.
Is hormone optimisation safe?
Yes. All treatments are evidence-based, prescribed by qualified doctors, and closely monitored through follow-up consultations and repeat blood tests.
How often will I need blood tests?
Typically, blood tests are carried out at baseline, three months, and six months, followed by regular monitoring. This ensures your treatment remains safe and effective.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects vary depending on the treatment plan but are usually mild and manageable. All clients are closely monitored, and treatment is adjusted if needed.
Will treatment affect my fertility?
Some hormone therapies, particularly testosterone replacement, can reduce sperm production. At Valens Health, we discuss this fully during your consultation and offer options that consider your future fertility goals.
How long will I need to stay on treatment?
Hormone optimisation is usually a long-term therapy, similar to other preventative health measures. The duration depends on your health goals, response to treatment, and ongoing results.
Can I stop treatment if I change my mind?
Yes. If you decide to stop, our clinicians will guide you through a safe process to minimise withdrawal effects and protect your health.
Practicalities & Costs
When will I notice results?
Every client’s journey is unique. Some notice improvements within weeks, while full optimisation may take 3–6 months. Most experience steady, sustained benefits over time.
What are the benefits?
Optimised hormones can help reverse symptoms of andropause, improving energy, mood, sleep, memory, and physical performance. Evidence also suggests hormone optimisation may reduce long-term risks such as cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol, and prostate concerns.
How much does treatment cost?
Your annual fee covers all consultations with your assigned doctor for 12 months. Laboratory blood tests and medications are arranged through our trusted partners at discounted rates. Blood tests can be carried out at home or at work, and prescriptions are delivered directly to you. Medication costs are additional to the annual fee.
Do you offer finance or payment plans?
We are exploring flexible payment options, including partnerships with healthcare finance providers, to make treatment more accessible. Please ask our team for the latest options.
Is treatment confidential?
Absolutely. Valens Health is CQC-registered and follows strict confidentiality protocols. Your medical records are secure, and nothing is shared without your consent.
